Booking your adventure
All our courses include full board accommodation, guiding or instruction and travel whilst on the course.
Travel to and from your accommodation, hire of technical kit (unless by prior arrangement), personal kit (such as boots, waterproofs etc) and personal insurance. If you're staying in our luxury bunkhouse you will also need to bring towels.
We use a range of different accommodation ranging from single or shared rooms to mixed sex luxury bunkhouses. The type of accommodation will be detailed in the description of your particular adventure.
Some of our adventures do have a few single rooms available on a first come, first served basis.
All La Montée residential adventures are for over 18s only. Some of our day adventures and events do accept under 18s as long as they are accompanied by and adult. Please see individual adventure pages or contact us to discuss the options.
There is no age limit. However, you should choose an adventure that is suitable to your level of fitness and physical capabilities.
We welcome participants of all ages, although our residential trips are for over 18s only. Our average age range is 25-65 subject to the nature of the adventure.
Membership to La Montée is free, you can either sign up online or when you attend your first adventure. Membership allows you to receive regular updates of up and coming adventures and offers and keep up with other members you might have met on previous trips.
On your adventure
You can see how our walks are graded on the 'Which adventures are best for me?' page of this site. Here's a summary of how we assess those gradings:
Easy walking, often hilly, terrain requiring general hill walking fitness.
Non-technical mountain walking terrain requiring a good level of hill walking fitness.
Longer, sometimes steeper, non-technical mountain walking terrain requiring a good level of hill walking fitness.
Steeper gradients requiring some technical scrambling skills, a head for heights and a higher level of hill walking fitness and stamina.
Technical mountain routes requiring scrambling and climbing experience, a head for heights and a high level of mountaineering fitness.
If you have any doubts or questions please do not hesitate to get in touch with us or speak to your leader on the day.
In order to keep our costs down we do not generally hire out equipment. However, on some weekends where specific technical equipment is required, we may be able to provide certain items of equipment (such as helmets, harnesses, crampons and ice axes) by prior arrangement and at an additional cost. A detailed kit list for your adventure is included on this website; please make sure you check this before you pack! You are of course welcome to use your own equipment.
Vegetarian and vegan options can be made available on our residential adventures however you must notify us of any dietary requirements in advance of your trip.
You will be asked to notify us of any allergies or intolerances once you have booked your adventure. We will do our best to accommodate for the majority of allergies (should we be unable to do so we will advise you before your adventure begins). Please note that due to the nature of the kitchens we cannot eliminate the possibility of cross contamination of allergens. If you have any questions please contact us.
All of our courses assume you have a certain level of fitness; it' important to choose an adventure that is right for your level. Have a look at the ‘Is it for me?’ notes on each adventure’s description and the ‘Which adventures are best for me?’ page on this site. However, if you still aren’t sure please contact us and we’ll help you decide.
On all our adventures our guides will have alternative routes should they be required in the event of bad weather or if a guest needs to get off the mountain. Ideally, we will not change the planned routes but if there is a smaller group and no-one objects it might be possible to tailor the route, to something easier or more challenging, without changing the overall objective and theme of the weekend.
During our weekends we will have a minibus available, included in the cost of your adventure, to take us (and our bikes if it's a riding adventure) to the start or pick us up from the finish of our walks or rides. If possible some routes might also start and finish directly from our accommodation.
